My Story

"Why Financial Education Matters to Me"

Growing up, I always felt a sense of financial lack. I didn’t have the tools or understanding to manage money effectively, and that lack of knowledge created stress and uncertainty that followed me through my younger years. Looking back, I know that with greater financial education early on, I could have navigated those challenges with far less worry and made smarter decisions about saving, budgeting, and planning for the future.

That’s why I’m so passionate about supporting MyBnk. Their work in delivering financial education to young people is a cause close to my heart. I’ve seen firsthand, through sessions in my school, the life-changing impact these lessons can have. Students are learning skills that prepare them for real-world challenges—skills I wish I had learned at their age.

In August 2023, I raised £1,500 for MyBnk by completing a half Ironman in Cork. While I was proud of that achievement, it has always felt like unfinished business—both in terms of the money raised and the personal challenge. I’ve always believed I have a full Ironman in me to complete. With this new fundraising campaign, I’m aiming to double the impact: completing the full Ironman distance and raising even more awareness and funds for MyBnk to expand their incredible work.

As I train for this challenge, I look forward to sharing the journey—every swim, ride, and run leading up to the start line of the event. #gettothestartline. I hope you’ll join me, not just in supporting this personal milestone, but also in coming together as a collective to improve financial education for young people in the UK. Together, we can give MyBnk the exposure and resources they need to continue the amazing work they do.

Financial literacy isn’t just about managing money; it’s about confidence, independence, and opportunity. MyBnk equips young people with the tools to build brighter futures, and I want to make sure more students get access to this vital education.

By supporting MyBnk, you’re not just donating—you’re empowering the next generation to avoid the struggles I faced and take control of their financial futures. Please join me in making a difference.

Together, we can give young people the start in life they deserve.

About MyBnk

MyBnk is a financial education charity dedicated to creating a financially fluent population. We believe that financial literacy should be considered a right for all because the language of money is a language for life.

Everyone needs to be able to manage their money. Yet almost two-thirds of young adults do not recall receiving any financial education at all, and 53 per cent are worried that they will never be financially secure. Poor financial literacy is central to many problems people face today, including rising mental health issues, homelessness, and unemployment.

MyBnk aims to bridge this gap, working with over 40,000 young people and adults across the UK every year, delivering expert-led, high-impact financial education programmes on topics such as saving, debt, and student finance. We want to bring the language of finance to life so that everyone can navigate their money with confidence, no matter where they started.
